It seems that on every ridge and mountain there are lines of wind powered turbines. We walked up to them and the reward is the beautiful metal sculpture of pilgrims walking across Alto del Perdon. What goes up, must come down and that was a slow process for aged knees! We have had a short walk today, 17 kms, which means we get to stay in a really lovely little albergue, top floor, two single beds in a room with another couple celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary today! Small village, no shops or any other signs of life, population 80 I believe, though we don't know where they are!“You're off to Great Places!Today is your day!Your mountain is waiting,So... get on your way!” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Pretty much all of our training has been along Linear Park and all the while we have been accompanied by the chatter, twitter, warble, squawk, screech, caroling, quacking, cawing and outright laughter of myriad birds; when we haven't felt much like walking it has always been the colours and chorus, the babies and the antics of the birds that have changed our 'drudgery' to joy. Sweet little reminders of God's amazing creation.

Day 1: Pamplona to Uterga - Yes, they have birds! 17.6kms
First day ... check! We left Pamplona this morning at 8.00 am and within moments had to wrestle with jackets and poncho as the rain began to fall. A gentle drizzle to christen our beginning. The path out of Pamplona is really lovely, plenty of signage which seems a loving sending out.
