Pretty much all of our training has been along Linear Park and all the while we have been accompanied by the chatter, twitter, warble, squawk, screech, caroling, quacking, cawing and outright laughter of myriad birds; when we haven't felt much like walking it has always been the colours and chorus, the babies and the antics of the birds that have changed our 'drudgery' to joy. Sweet little reminders of God's amazing creation.

Day 12: Hontanas to Itero de la Vega 22.4kms
Aah, the serenity. A beautiful day for walking, clear blue sky and happy birds and a mother of a mountain. We were picked off the path in this little village and couldn't say no to a room so an early finish leaves us with a lot of day to rest. I won't complain. Ken is tireless for which I am thankful; yes he has offered to carry my pack and no I can do it myself! We were walking behind a girl today who had printed in large letters on her pack, "what are you thankful for". A gentle reminder that we have so much. I also think the generic little spoggies, the least of these, who we hear all along the way are great reminders that we are cared for. We had behind us today and then in front, two couples bouncing along and after awhile we noticed the beautiful Mercedes van and driver waiting at strategic points ... it wasn't too long before they hopped in, as it was their luggage piled in the back, and were whisked away to someplace I am sure was not an albergue. There are as many people carrying everything on their backs, as have their luggage/packs forwarded by van to where they are staying each day. No right way to get from here to there; as in life we are all doing it however we can with whatever we have.
“Now shall I walk or shall I ride?
'Ride,' Pleasure said;
'Walk,' Joy replied.”
