Pretty much all of our training has been along Linear Park and all the while we have been accompanied by the chatter, twitter, warble, squawk, screech, caroling, quacking, cawing and outright laughter of myriad birds; when we haven't felt much like walking it has always been the colours and chorus, the babies and the antics of the birds that have changed our 'drudgery' to joy. Sweet little reminders of God's amazing creation.

Day 19: Villar de Mazariffe to Astorga 31.3kms
Walking out of the town this morning we, as we have had the joy of every day, marvelled again at the engineering genius of the stork. In every village, town and city, church buildings are decorated with their huge nests. A tall chimney for I don't know what, a metal tower, and their will be a nest and birds in residence. Do those babies come into the world knowing how not to upset the balance? The pastoral landscape this morning was unlike any we had seen because of the animation ... we have not seen farmers in the fields, water gushing through the web of canals that line the roads and fields, cattle grazing. Our afternoon of walking was long and hot and tiring ... except for the fields of chamomile dotted with poppies! We are lucky to get into an albergue, have two of 154 beds.
