Pretty much all of our training has been along Linear Park and all the while we have been accompanied by the chatter, twitter, warble, squawk, screech, caroling, quacking, cawing and outright laughter of myriad birds; when we haven't felt much like walking it has always been the colours and chorus, the babies and the antics of the birds that have changed our 'drudgery' to joy. Sweet little reminders of God's amazing creation.

Day 5: Torres del Rio to Logrono 22.4kms

We are quadripeds ... we are well used to the extra two legs, our poles have given us. We would be poorer without them. Almond and olive groves, vineyards, hills and mountains on every side and we wend our way through them. Today we walked from Navarre into the wine region of La Rioja. Whatever I expected, it was not the hills and mountains. We did have some sleep last night; I found it comforting to know that if I did go to sleep I would only be adding to the symphony already in progress! Tonight we are in a dormitory of 20 but very thankful as most places were filled because of their 1 May holiday, long weekend, when apparently a lot of people start out to walk a few days. I have gone back to add the day to these posts as already I am losing track of days. Sorry that I cannot seem to get the adding of photos properly to Facebook, and even sorrier that I haven't yet figured out how to add to the posts. I finally got the photo of the big black door on, my favourite, because as I was taking it a man came up talking in Spanish and it was his door, thus the photo of the huge keys. Not sure where he was carrying them! We start walking at 7ish and have been arriving at our days destination around two. Then it is the chore of washing and drying clothes, drinking coffee (possibly a cerveza or two) and learning to walk properly again, well that's me anyway. There are also some in a worse way, one poor Japanese boy has damaged a knee but also carries a 15kg pack. We are not having any trouble with our packs so it seems 7-8kgs is a good number, although I don't know why it's so hard to organise the very few things in there!
